Three people died and four others were injured in a multi-car collision in County Armagh on Saturday night.
Emergency services dispatched three rapid response paramedics, seven emergency crews and one hazardous area response team after the Armagh Road crash was reported near Moy, in south-east County Tyrone.
Two men, aged 31 and 48, and a 23-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while four people were injured, three of whom remain in hospital receiving treatment.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) assistant chief constable, Davy Beck, said the collision involved three vehicles: a red BMW, a grey Volkswagen and a white Audi.
Speaking at the scene, Beck gave his condolences to the families affected by the crash, adding: “One can only imagine the real sense of shock and grief that is engulfing these families at this particular time.”
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Diana Armstrong, said it was “a very dark day for families who have been plunged into shock and mourning”.
She said she sent her “deepest sympathies and sincere condolences”, adding that those affected must be “totally at a loss to comprehend the scale of this tragedy”.
Armstrong, the Ulster Unionist party deputy leader, said: “The toll of the loss of life in this incident has shocked the local community and many will be holding those impacted in their thoughts and prayers today.
“My thanks go to the PSNI and emergency services who attended the scene and transferred those affected for medical treatment.”
In a post on X, the Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes described what happened as “devastating news”.
Hughes said: “Our sincerest sympathies to the families and friends of those who died in this immense tragedy, and to the affected communities.”
The Social Democratic and Labour party (SDLP) councillor for Armagh, Thomas O’Hanlon, said: “Three families and their wider communities have been plunged into deep grief.
“There are truly no words that can ease such pain, other than to offer our thoughts and prayers at this incredibly difficult time.”
Police said inquiries were continuing and appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to contact them.
The Armagh Road at Moy remains closed.
