Nagpur: Three pilgrims from the city, including a couple, were killed and six others injured early Saturday when their car rammed a stationary truck on the Multai four-lane road in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district. The victims, all residents of Butibori near Nagpur, were travelling to Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore district for darshan. The accident occurred around 3.15 am near a dhaba when the speeding car slammed into the rear of a parked truck, Multai police station house officer Vikas Patel said. The deceased have been identified as Deepak Rawat (52), his wife Chhaya (42), and Prabha Kavrata (25).The six injured, including the driver and children travelling in the group of 11, were first taken to Multai govt hospital and later referred to Nagpur for advanced treatment.Police suspect the driver may have dozed off at the wheel and failed to notice the parked vehicle. “The exact cause will be ascertained only after detailed investigation,” Patel told the media. A case has been registered and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.Local police in Multai informed the families and are coordinating with Nagpur authorities for completing the formalities.Officials said the car was completely wrecked in the high-impact collision. Preliminary findings point to possible driver fatigue during the long overnight journey from Nagpur to Sehore. A further probe will examine vehicle condition, road safety measures at the spot and whether the truck was properly parked and marked.
