Coimbatore: DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi campaigned for the party candidates in western Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The day started with Kanimozhi campaigning in Vellakovil area in Kangayam assembly constituency for DMK candidate MP Saminathan. She said this time it was a contest between Tamil Nadu and the Hindutva proponents based in Delhi. “We must recognize that this election is fundamentally a battle between the ancient Tamil civilization rooted in Keeladi and the RSS fundamentalists in Nagpur who seek to impose their ideology on us. Our voters have a duty to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s self-respect, its rights, and the educational future of its children,” she said. Slamming AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, she said, “He has betrayed not only Tamil Nadu but also the very party that nurtured his growth.” Later in the day, Kanimozhi campaigned in Sulur constituency in Coimbatore district, where she said the Union govt had drastically slashed the funds allocated to the states for the 100-day employment scheme. “Prime Minister Modi has been introducing laws that effectively pave the way for complete dismantling of this scheme. Despite all these, CM Stalin has promised that the 100-day employment will be increased to 150 days of employment, if DMK returns to form govt in the state.” For Sulur constituency, she said, an indoor stadium of international standards would be constructed. The party manifesto for the constituency promises a textile park, air-conditioned vegetable storage warehouse and a new ring road.
