Coimbatore: The Perur police on Saturday night arrested a six-member gang for attempting to murder a 37-year-old man over a money dispute.A police officer said the culprits were nabbed based on a complaint lodged by Sujithkumar, of G V Garden at Kuppanur near Madampatti. He said Sujithkumar’s friends K Sanjeev, 19, S Sanjay, 20, both from Mariamman Temple Street at Pachapalayam; V Sanjeev, 19, of Officer Colony; and Kaushik, 19, of Krishna Colony, invited him for a drink on Saturday. “They gathered near the Western Ring Road, close to Theethipalayam Govt Middle School, and consumed alcohol. At that time, S Sathguru, 23, of Theethipalayam, accompanied by K Chandru, 22, and S Arun, 24, approached Sujithkumar and asked him to repay the money borrowed from them,” the officer said. An argument broke out and Chandru took out a knife and attacked Sujithkumar on head, the officer said. “Arun and others then joined in and assaulted him. Sujithkumar collapsed on the spot. The gang placed him on a motorcycle and dropped him in front of a private hospital at Madampatti, before speeding away.” Bystanders rescued Sujithkumar and took him to Coimbatore Govt Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Based on Sujithkumar’s statement, police arrested K Sanjeev, S Sanjay, V Sanjeev, Kaushik, Chandru, and Sathguru. The arrested youths were remanded in judicial custody.
