T’puram: Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat on Monday unveiled a comprehensive and surplus budget for the 2026–27 financial year. The budget, the first presented by new ruling committee, projects a total revenue of Rs 10,64,94,40,521 and total expenditure of Rs 10,59,30,63,678, leaving a surplus of Rs 5,63,76,843. Vice president B P Murali presented the budget at a function held at district panchayat hall.Panchayat president V Priyadarshini said “This is a comprehensive budget that ensures environmental sustainability, new employment opportunities and quality education while extending a helping hand to the underprivileged.”A major highlight is allocation of Rs 40 crore for public works. Housing projects were allotted Rs 17 crore. In the agriculture sector, Rs 4 crore was earmarked for infrastructure development. Healthcare received Rs 7.80 crore. Transgender-friendly clinics will be started in district hospitals, and a comprehensive livelihood scheme titled ‘Mazhavillu’ was proposed. TNN
