T’puram: Thiruvallom police arrested a man in connection with the attack on a youth, seriously injuring him at Punchakkari on Thursday night. The assault was part of an ongoing gang rivalry.The arrested person was identified as Praveen, 36, alias Unni, of Melankode. He was taken into custody in connection with the attack on Sajeevi, 30, of Malayinkeezhu, police said.During the incident, Sajeevi allegedly sustained serious head injuries after being attacked with a beer bottle. He was initially admitted to a nearby hospital and later shifted to govt medical college hospital for specialised treatment.According to police, the clash reportedly arose from a dispute over information allegedly being passed on to police regarding a ganja case. The altercation soon escalated into violence, resulting in the assault.Thiruvallom SHO Biju said efforts were under way to trace Manu, 29, and other accused involved in the incident. Police suspect that more people were involved in the attack. Police said further probe was in progress and additional arrests were likely in the coming days.The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
