Chennai: GCC has passed a resolution to set up a pickleball court in the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone at an estimated cost of 1.52 crore. The move is aimed at strengthening neighbourhood sports infrastructure and promoting emerging racquet sports in Chennai.The project is expected to improve access to organized recreational spaces for residents in north Chennai and encourage more participation in structured sporting activities, the resolution noted. The court will have essential supporting infrastructure, including adequate lighting, seating, and basic amenities. “Pickleball, which blends elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, has witnessed steady growth across urban centres in recent years. The court will meet a growing demand and provide recreational options for youth,” said a senior official. The initiative is part of GCC’s efforts to expand sports amenities across city zones.
