On Wednesday, the VCK leader said he received information that the two long-time Dravidian rivals were willing to unite politically and project him as chief minister if it helped keep Vijay’s party away from forming the government.
“I got information that they had decided to make me Chief Minister,” Thirumavalavan said.
But according to him, the proposal never moved forward.
The VCK chief said he discussed the matter with senior leaders in his party before ultimately rejecting it.
“After consulting with party senior leaders, we rejected it,” he added.
The claim has added another layer of suspense to Tamil Nadu’s already chaotic political situation, where alliances, defections, and last-minute negotiations have dominated headlines ever since the election results. Interestingly, Thirumavalavan’s remarks came on the same day a faction of AIADMK MLAs opposing party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami accused him of trying to align with the DMK to block TVK from power.
That faction has now openly announced support for Vijay’s government ahead of the crucial floor test.
The DMK, however, has dismissed the allegations surrounding any such political arrangement.
Meanwhile, Thirumavalavan also addressed criticism over why the VCK took time to officially back TVK despite intense speculation over its position.
He explained that the decision was not rushed and involved multiple rounds of internal discussions.
“People assumed we would make an announcement immediately, but discussions like these take time,” he said.
According to him, the VCK leadership held consultations through Zoom meetings on May 8 and continued deliberations before formally deciding to support TVK.
The VCK eventually backed Vijay’s party after winning two Assembly seats, giving crucial support to the TVK-led government at a politically sensitive moment.
Now, with floor test tensions rising and claims of behind-the-scenes political manoeuvring surfacing publicly, Tamil Nadu’s power battle is looking like a full-blown political thriller.
