Hisar: Once trapped in addiction and on the brink of losing everything, they are now reclaiming their lives. At an event in Hisar on Sunday, several recovered addicts shared their journeys under Operation Jeevan Jyoti, a Fatehabad police initiative that focuses on rehabilitation alongside enforcement.Young men from across the district — including Virender from Lahli, Chandramohan from Ratia, Gurvinder Singh from Dholu, Vinod Kumar from Bharpur and others — spoke about how counselling and medical support helped them break free from substance abuse.Vinod Kumar said he was addicted to pharmaceutical drugs for over 12 years. “My family was devastated—financially and emotionally,” he said, adding that he has now returned to a stable, drug-free life with support from the police team.Virender recalled how casual use spiralled into dependency. “There was constant conflict at home, and I was losing control,” he said, crediting the intervention for helping him rebuild his life.Gurvinder Singh admitted that addiction had distanced him from his family. “I would even sell household items to sustain my addiction,” he said. Now rehabilitated, he says he has regained dignity and self-respect.Superintendent of Police Nikita Khattar said the initiative reflects a shift towards reform-oriented policing. “Never look back. Keep moving forward… we are with you,” she told the youth.Officials said the programme aims to curb addiction while restoring families and reintegrating individuals into society.
