NEW DELHI: Valuables worth several lakhs, including jewellery, cash and foreign currency, were allegedly stolen from a woman scientist’s flat inside the high-security DRDO residential complex in north Delhi’s Timarpur area, police said on Tuesday. The incident surfaced after the scientist returned to her residence on May 23 from Chandigarh, where she had travelled on May 15 to meet her family, and found her house ransacked and items missing. According to police, the stolen property includes Rs 15,000 in cash, foreign currency, jewellery comprising a necklace set with earrings, bangles, chains and rings, as well as three watches. The total value of the theft is still being assessed but is estimated to run into several lakhs. A case has been registered at Timarpur police station and an investigation is underway. Crime and forensic teams have inspected the spot, while CCTV footage from within the residential complex and nearby areas is being examined to trace the accused. Police suspect the burglars may have conducted a recce before targeting the flat. No arrests have been made so far.
