When it comes to Indian universities, this is considered a landmark shift, evoking the importance of research relevance on the campuses.
Enrollment trends favor research-enabled institutions
The trend analysis of the enrollments indicated that the universities that offer exposure to research funding, innovation centers, and industry connections draw higher proportions of international postgraduate and research-degree students, especially in the fields of science, technology, sustainability, healthcare, and data analysis. There is a growing need for students to study in environments that support real-world problem-solving and research, rather than merely contributing to the depth of knowledge.
India’s evolving research and development investment landscape
India’s public and institutional investment in research and development has grown consistently over the last decade, with a very clear policy focus on applied research, interdisciplinary centers, and commercialization pathways. India’s overall R&D spend as a share of its GDP remains below that of mature research economies, yet the line of funding has clearly shifted toward outcomes.
