THANE: Despite persistent follow-ups by the Thane Municipal Corporation and multiple missed deadlines, the MMRDA has still failed to open the two-lane flyover crossing the crucial Kasarvadavali junction on the Ghodbunder Highway. The flyover, constructed on the Thane to Fountain Hotel stretch of the highway, was intended to ease outbound traffic delays at the junction. However, it has become a source of frustration for motorists, who end up spending nearly 15–25 minutes trying to get across. It may be recalled that Thane Civic Commissioner Saurabh Rao had announced 15 April as the date to inaugurate the flyover, which was then postponed to 31 May and later to 5 June. Now, as the month draws to a close, there is still no sign of the flyover being completed.Meanwhile, the delay is causing major inconvenience for freight vehicles and motorists travelling between Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, the western suburbs of Mumbai, and Gujarat. Local vehicles also get stuck at the junction, trying to navigate the narrowed lanes clogged with outbound traffic.“The flyover was supposed to open before the four-lane Bhayanderpada bridge, which was inaugurated last month, but even now we spend an average of 25 minutes crossing the stretch, which is further narrowed due to several civic works in progress,” said Rishabh Shah, a regular commuter. An MMRDA official confirmed the delay but declined to provide reasons.
