Temporary fix at Manish Nagar T-Point fails to withstand rains | Nagpur News

Nagpur: Residents of Manish Nagar, Besa and Beltarodi are frustrated due to repeated patchwork being undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD) at the busy Manish Nagar T-Point, alleging that the repairs fail to survive even a few spells of rain before the potholes resurface.The junction, which witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, connects the rapidly developing residential pockets of Manish Nagar, Besa and Beltarodi. While the approach roads from all three directions have been concretised and paved with interlocking blocks, bitumen has been laid on a small section of the T-point. As per residents, this mismatch has made the patch vulnerable to monsoon damage.Locals said that every time potholes emerge, PWD carries out temporary patchwork with bitumen.

However, rainfall and constant movement of heavy vehicles cause the repaired surface to peel off within days, exposing the potholes once again. “It has become a yearly ritual. Instead of a permanent solution, we only get temporary fixes,” said Rajesh Wankhede, a resident of Manish Nagar.Neha Deshmukh, a Besa resident, said the deteriorating road poses a serious safety risk. “Thousands of commuters use this junction every day. Two-wheelers are especially vulnerable because potholes filled with rainwater are hardly visible. We don’t want patchwork anymore; we want a permanent road,” she said.Motorists also pointed out that traffic slows down considerably whenever the road deteriorates, resulting in congestion during peak hours. Residents claimed that despite repeated complaints, the situation remains unchanged every monsoon.PWD sources told TOI that the T-Point falls under the jurisdictions of two different PWD divisions. The officials said a long-term solution is now being planned. “The bitumen patch will soon be replaced with interlocking blocks, similar to the adjoining roads. Once completed, it will provide a more durable and uniform carriageway at the junction,” a PWD official said.
