Amravati: Over 70 students at a govt tribal ashram school in Titamba, Dharani taluka of Melghat, fell ill due to suspected food poisoning on Saturday night.Within hours of having dinner, students began vomiting, had diarrhea and complained of severe discomfort. All affected students were immediately admitted to the sub-district hospital in Dharani. The administration said their condition is now stable.According to information received, cooked meals are supplied to Titamba ashram school. After eating on Saturday night, students showed symptoms of food poisoning, raising questions about food quality. Health department has seized samples of food and water and sent them to a laboratory for testing.

Amravati MP Balwant Wankhede visited the hospital on Sunday and enquired about the students’ health. He then went Titamba ashram school and spoke to students and parents. Criticizing the school’s negligence, he demanded immediate inquiry and suspension of the ashram school superintendent and headmaster for playing with students’ health.—-BOX—-Parents outragedOn learning of the incident, sub-divisional officer, tehsildar and taluka health officer rushed to the spot. Affected students were shifted to hospital by ambulance.Meanwhile, parents expressed strong anger. “We had repeatedly complained about poor quality food provided to students. It is administrative negligence that has put our children’s lives at risk today,” parents alleged, demanding strict action against those responsible.
