Udupi: A case has been registered after an unauthorised fake website was allegedly created in the name of accommodation at Sri Mookambika Temple, Kollur, to cheat devotees seeking rooms at the temple’s Jagadambika Guest House. Prashanth Kumar Shetty, 56, executive officer of Sri Mookambika Temple, lodged a complaint alleging that unidentified persons created the unauthorised website under the name “hotel accommodation” with the intention of making illegal gains.The accused allegedly offered bookings for rooms at Jagadambika Guest House through the fake website, contacted devotees on WhatsApp, sent PhonePe QR codes, collected money and issued fake receipts.Kollur Police registered a case under Section 66(c) of the Information Technology Act and Section 318 of the BNS.
