Gurgaon: The city is likely to receive light to moderate rain at a few places on Monday, while heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar, according to Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh.The maximum temperature in the city on Sunday was 33 degrees Celsius which was 0.3 notches higher than the previous day of 32.7 degrees.The minimum temperature in the city was 28 degrees Celsius on Sunday, compared with 27 degrees on Saturday.India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in parts of northern Haryana. It has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across the state over the next two days.While rain is likely at a few places in the city and several other districts on Monday, the warning for heavy rain is confined to the three northern districts.On Aug 18, heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is likely at isolated places in Panchkula and Yamunanagar. The city is among the districts likely to receive light to moderate rain at many places that day.For the city, the forecast comes after a largely dry 24 hours.The district recorded no rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Sunday, according to IMD’s rainfall observations. Its seasonal rainfall total stood at 338.4mm, around 4% below normal.IMD said the monsoon trough was passing through Ferozepur, Bareilly, Lucknow and Jamshedpur before extending towards a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.An upper-air cyclonic circulation was also lying over north Haryana and neighbouring areas at about 0.9km above mean sea level.The weather system is expected to keep rainfall activity elevated through Tuesday.IMD’s seven-day forecast said light to moderate rain was likely at a few places in Haryana on Aug 16 and 17, increasing to many places on Aug 18 before becoming limited to a few places thereafter.Heavy rain is likely at isolated places on Aug 17 and 18.Rainfall was recorded in several parts of Haryana during the 24 hours preceding Sunday morning.Ismailabad in Kurukshetra received the highest rainfall at 6cm, while Ambala, Babain and Ladwa recorded 5cm each. Shahbad and Jhirka recorded 3cm each.The wet spell is expected to continue beyond Tuesday, although no heavy rain warning has been issued for Aug 19 to 22.IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places in Haryana on Aug 19 and 20, with similar rainfall activity expected on Aug 21 and 22.
