HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old from Nirmal district, who recently began his professional career in Michigan in the US, was declared brain dead by doctors after he suffered injuries in a road accident.Nithyanand Reddy Gannu from Narsapur village in Laxmanchanda mandal, had gone to the US more than three years ago to pursue higher education.Nithyanand met with an accident on July 18, five days before his birthday, near Ann Arbor, Michigan, when a car reportedly hit his motorcycle. He suffered multiple grievous injuries, including a severe fracture. His friends rushed him to a hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery and began intensive treatment.However, his condition deteriorated despite continuous treatment by trauma specialists, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and critical care physicians. He remained on life support even as his family and friends desperately hoped for a miracle.On July 23, Nithyanand’s friends celebrated his birthday at his bedside in the hospital. A short while later, doctors informed the family that his condition had worsened and declared him brain dead.Nithyanand had completed his master’s in information systems at Indiana Tech, between January 2023 and December 2024. After completing his studies, he had recently secured a job and was living in Detroit area of Michigan.As medical expenses mounted, friends and members of the Indian community in the US launched a fundraiser through GoFundMe to support his treatment and rehabilitation. The appeal described Nithyanand as a kind, hardworking and caring young man from a farming family whose life had changed in an instant because of the accident.The fundraiser sought help to meet hospital bills, intensive care expenses and other treatment costs. More than $65,000 was raised through the campaign.
