HYDERABAD: After a 25-year-old farmer allegedly consumed herbicide and died by suicide in Jagtial over mounting debts, his mother suffered a heart attack and died while waiting for his body at the morgue on Wednesday. Distressed over a Rs 5 lakh hand loan taken from a villager for house construction, along with repeated crop failures, Dodla Sampath of Mothe village in Jagtial mandal consumed herbicide at about 6.30pm on Tuesday on the outskirts of the village. Family members rushed him to a local clinic and later to a private hospital in Karimnagar, where he succumbed on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment.Shortly after the body was shifted to Jagtial govt hospital for postmortem, Sampath’s mother, Dodla Mallavva (60), collapsed outside the mortuary, complaining of chest pain. She was immediately shifted to the medical ward, where she died while undergoing treatment.Mallavva’s elder son, Santosh, who works in Turkey, has been informed about the incident. Jagtial Rural ASI M Sathaiah said a case was registered under Section 194 of the BNSS in connection with Sampath’s suicide. Both bodies were handed over to the family members.
