Nagpur: A 16-year-old girl was rescued from Ambazari Lake on Saturday after allegedly attempting suicide by jumping into the water. The timely intervention of six swimmers and a police constable averted a tragedy, police said.The teenager, a resident of Sitabuldi, had reportedly left home without informing her family. Concerned relatives later discovered a suicide note and lodged a missing person complaint at Sitabuldi police station. Acting swiftly, police teams began searching for the girl and scanning CCTV footage from various locations in the area.During the search, information was received that a girl had jumped into Ambazari Lake. At the time, members of a private swimming club were practising in the lake when they spotted the teenager jump into the water.Without hesitation, Akshay Navle, Ishant Pande, Rajanandini Samarth, Lavanya Raut, Rahul Lanjewar and Srimath Mule dived into the lake to rescue her. They were assisted by Vijay Sardar, a police staffer attached to Ambazari police station. Working together, they managed to bring the girl safely to the shore.The minor was immediately shifted to a hospital in Sitabuldi, where doctors said her condition was stable and she was out of danger.In recognition of their courage and prompt action, additional CP Vinita Sahu felicitated the six swimmers later in the day at Sitabuldi police station. Officers and personnel from both Sitabuldi and Ambazari police stations were present at the event.Police said the coordinated efforts of civilians and law enforcement personnel played a crucial role in preventing a loss of life and highlighted the importance of community vigilance and quick response in emergencies.
