Patna: A 15-year-old girl was shot dead by her boyfriend in Muzaffarpur district in the early hours of Wednesday after he suspected her of cheating. The incident occurred at the girl’s residence in the Sakra police station area.The accused, who had returned from Delhi a week ago, allegedly argued with the girl over the phone, suspecting her of speaking to another boy. He entered her house stealthily while her family was asleep and shot her in the head before surrendering at the local police station.

The deceased was a Class IX student and a resident of Mansoorpur village in the Sakra police station area. The accused lived about 100 metres away from her house. The two frequently met and had been in a relationship for the past one year.Police said that a few months ago the accused, identified as Vikki Kumar (20), had gone to Delhi for work. After his departure, their meetings reduced and phone conversations became less frequent. Meanwhile, a friend informed him that the girl had started talking to another boy.After receiving this information, the accused returned to Muzaffarpur about seven days ago. He began quarrelling with her over the phone and repeatedly called her outside to meet him, but she refused.He then reached her house while her family members were asleep. No one noticed his entry. An argument ensued, following which he shot her in the head.The girl’s mother said, “We were sleeping when we heard a knock by the police team on the main gate. When we woke up to open the gate, we found the girl lying in the courtyard. Her father thought that she was unconscious, but she was found dead. The police sent the body for post-mortem at the SKMCH.”SDPO (east) Manoj Kumar Singh said the accused confessed to the crime.“He admitted to killing the girl due to suspicion of cheating. The police recovered a pistol and a cartridge from the accused. The age of the accused, whether he is a minor or adult, will be verified,” the SDPO said.He added that family members informed police that a wedding ceremony was taking place in the neighbourhood at the time. Loud DJ music and songs were playing throughout the night, due to which no one heard the gunshot.
