In a heart-wrenching incident in Patna’s Bikram locality, a vehicle careened into a canal, tragically taking the lives of a beloved couple, Jitendra Kumar and Malti Devi. Remarkably, two other passengers managed to escape the water-logged car.

Patna: A married couple died after their car went out of control and plunged into a canal in the Bikram police station area of Patna district on Wednesday morning.The accident occurred around 9am near Mozakka Tola village. Two other occupants managed to save themselves by jumping out of the vehicle before it overturned into the canal. The survivors said they were travelling to Patna for medical treatment when the driver suddenly lost control and the car veered off the road into the water.Local villagers, along with police personnel, launched a rescue operation. The bodies were later recovered from the canal and sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, for post-mortem examination.The deceased were identified as Jitendra Kumar (56) and his wife Malti Devi (45), residents of Saraibar village under Kutumba police station in Aurangabad district.On receiving information, Bikram SHO Prabhat Kumar reached the spot and supervised the recovery of the bodies with the help of the police team and locals.He said, “Prima facie, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which led to the accident. The local villagers demanded an iron railing fence alongside the canal for the safety of passengers. The authorities concerned will be requested for the development.”
