Pune: A 15-year-old boy died, while his cousin and one other person suffered severe injuries after their car crashed into an unknown vehicle plying ahead before hitting a median near Shirgaon on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway around 3am on Wednesday.The trio was driving towards Mumbai from Sangli. The Shirgaon police have identified the deceased as Darshan Shah of Sangli district. His cousin Aditya Shah (30), who was driving the car, and their family friend Ashwesh Sawant (32) of Virar, Mumbai, were injured.Police sub-inspector Naid Shaikh of the Shirgaon police said Sawant had gone to Sangli for work and was about to leave for Mumbai on Tuesday. On the same night, he joined Shah brothers, who were also on their way to Mumbai. “They left Sangli around 11pm on Tuesday and reached Shirgaon around 3am. Prima facie, the driver might have dozed off, crashed into an unknown vehicle before hitting the divider,” Shaikh said.He said the 15-year-old boy died at the spot. “The driver was undergoing treatment in a hospital. Our investigations were on,” he said.
