Pune:The Pune Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized over 3,800 kg of adulterated mango pulp following raids in Maval and Khed talukas.Acting on confidential information, an FDA team first inspected a manufacturing establishment in Maval taluka. The inspection revealed that the unit was producing mango pulp using unauthorised food colors and various adulterating substances.Officials collected six samples for laboratory analysis, including mango pulp, raw mangoes, and additives used in production, such as sugar, cow’s milk, and liquid saffron colour solution. Due to its perishable nature, the remaining stock of 3,282.9 kg—valued at approximately Rs1.61 lakh—was seized and subsequently destroyed on-site.The investigation led officials to a second company in Khed, which had been sourcing its supply from the Maval unit. During that inspection, officials seized an additional 558 kg of mango pulp valued at Rs61,380.The FDA has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected food adulteration by calling the administration’s toll-free helpline at 1800222365.DV Bhogawade, joint commissioner (food), Pune division, emphasised that the administration is maintaining a strict vigil to ensure public health. “All fruit-selling establishments and juice manufacturers are strictly prohibited from operating without a valid licence. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, conducting business without a licence carries a statutory penalty of up to Rs10 lakh,” Bhogawade said.
