A team of AC mechanics working at a nearby flat spotted the victim hanging from the balcony railing minutes before he fell to his death

Noida: A 28-year-old software engineer died by suicide after jumping from the balcony of a 41st-floor Airbnb in Supernova in Sector 94 on Saturday morning.A team of AC mechanics working at a nearby flat spotted him hanging from the balcony railing and tried to persuade him to step back. He allegedly told them he was “depressed”, before jumping off the edge.Police identified the man as Sambhav Jain, a resident of IMT Manesar who worked for a private company in Gurgaon. He had checked into the Airbnb in Spyra tower alone around 3pm on Friday and ordered food online that evening. Two videos of the incident have emerged. One, recorded by a resident of the 17th floor of another tower, shows Jain falling off the balcony. The other, filmed by a member of the AC repair team from a nearby balcony, captures the technicians trying to communicate with him before he jumps.“No sooner did we receive information, a team from Sector 126 police station reached the spot and identified the man with the help of ID cards found in his room,” said Sumnesh Kumar, SHO of Sector 126.According to Kumar, Jain had left home around three days earlier and stayed at hotels in different places before arriving in Noida.Police are examining WhatsApp conversations between Jain and his father over a monetary dispute. “According to the chats, it appeared that his father insisted he return home, but he refused. He said he would repay all the debts first,” Kumar said.Police are also examining if personal difficulties, too, may have contributed to his death. The SHO said Jain had married about two years ago, but the relationship ended in a divorce after a few months. Around that time, the couple’s baby was born prematurely, and treatment costs reportedly exceeded Rs 30 lakh.Jain, police said, had borrowed money to meet the expenses. At Supernova, a team of police and officials from forensic science laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene and collected evidence. CCTV footage from the building and surrounding areas is being examined too.“An inquest report has been prepared. The body has also been sent for autopsy,” Kumar said.
