Patna: A govt school teacher was arrested in Supaul on Thursday after parents accused him of allegedly showing obscene videos to girl students and behaving inappropriately with them inside a classroom. A case had been registered and further investigation was underway, said police.The incident allegedly occurred on Sept 29 at Middle School Sakhwa in Dinapatti panchayat under Pipra police station area. According to the complaint, assistant teacher Devnandan Mehta allegedly showed videos on his cellphone to around six girl students during school hours.The matter came to light after some students told their parents about the incident. On Thursday, around 25-30 parents and villagers gathered at the school and demanded action against the teacher.After being informed about the incident, Pipra SHO Kishore Kumar reached the school with a police team and questioned teachers, parents and others present. The accused was taken to the police station and later arrested.“A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victims’ side. Further legal action is underway,” the SHO said.One of the students, a Class III girl, alleged that the teacher called her and three other girls after lunch and showed them videos on his cellphone. She further alleged that he made her sit on his lap while showing the videos. However, the allegations have also drawn differing accounts from the school administration and some villagers.Headmaster Suman Sore said the school was under the charge of another teacher, Lakshya, on Sept 29. According to him, no complaint was reported to the school administration that day.Lakshya said she was unaware of any such incident and learnt about the allegations only on Thursday morning. She claimed the school functioned normally on Sept 29 and the following day, and that neither students nor parents approached her with any complaint.Some villagers also expressed reservations over the allegations. Mohammad Azam, a resident of Ward No. 1, said he had heard about the accusations but had neither witnessed the alleged incident nor received any direct information about it. He added that members of his family had studied under the teacher.Police said the complaint alleging the showing of obscene videos and inappropriate conduct was being investigated. The accused has been arrested and further inquiry is in progress.
