New Delhi: BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde is set to visit Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, marking his first trip to the state since being appointed the party’s in-charge of UP.
For his two-day visit, Tawde has instructed party leaders and workers to avoid an ostentatious welcome, posters and road shows. He has sent out a message that the focus should be on work ahead of assembly elections. The instruction has become a point of discussion as a few days ago, another BJP general secretary, Harish Dwivedi, was accorded a grand welcome by the state leaders on his arrival in Lucknow. The former Lok Sabha MP from UP was visiting Lucknow for the first time after being appointed as party general secretary.
Similarly, on August 4, Rohit Mishra, the newly appointed BJP UP Yuva Morcha president, was given a grand welcome in Kanpur, which caused traffic jams across the city.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP has announced its regional team of office bearers. Tawde is expected to meet all district in-charges at the party office in Lucknow to review the preparatory work. He will also be meeting chief minister Yogi Adityanath and the deputy chief ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak. Sources told ET that the initial discussion would be on organising a month-long celebration to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in executive office, spanning the time from his first oath as the chief minister of Gujarat to his current tenure as prime minister. Tawde was in-charge of Bihar during the state Assembly elections and he has been trusted with UP after his successful Bihar stint.
BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh will be visiting the state on September 7 to meet the party workers.
