Mumbai: The 2026 edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) generated an overall socio-economic and health impact of Rs 663.23 crore, bringing together 70,065 participants from 46 countries and diverting 100% of its 21.8 tonnes of race waste away from landfills. The details were revealed in an impact report by Procam International and International Institute of Sports Management (IISM), launched by Maharashtra deputy chief minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar at Sahyadri Guest House on Tuesday.Speaking at the event, Pawar unveiled and registered for Dream Run, whose registrations remain open until Sept 13—stating her vision to make sports a lifestyle choice across the state. “Industries such as tourism, travel, fitness, and sports have generated an estimated Rs 650 crore in revenue because of this marathon,” Pawar said. “This is not just an activity confined to the sports field, but a force that creates opportunity and brings new energy to a larger economy.”Echoing similar sentiments, minister for food and civil supplies Chhagan Bhujbal highlighted the race’s civic significance. “The Tata Mumbai Marathon has grown from a sporting event into a movement and an integral part of Mumbai’s identity, putting the city on the global sporting map,” Bhujbal said.The report detailed a direct economic footprint of Rs 602.54 crore, driven by participant spending on nutrition, apparel, gear, travel, and accommodation. The event also raised Rs 60.68 crore for over 300 NGOs, pushing its lifetime philanthropic contributions past Rs 500 crore. Vivek Singh, joint managing director of Procam International, said that the event’s total impact has expanded substantially over the years, growing from Rs 202.78 crore in 2020 to Rs 663.22 crore in 2026.
