Kendrapada: Over three-fourths of Odisha’s rural households now have tap water connections under Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission, with coverage rising from just 3.1 lakh homes in 2019 to 68.73 lakh by Aug this year, Union minister of state for jal shakti V Somanna informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.Replying to a question by BJD MP Sasmit Patra, Somanna said that drinking water is a state subject and that the govts are responsible for planning, implementation, operation and maintenance of supply schemes. The Centre supports states through financial assistance, policy guidance and technical inputs, he added.Launched in August 2019 under the Har Ghar Jal programme, the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide regular and adequate supply of safe drinking water through household tap connections in rural areas.
