Srinagar, 03 Mar: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq Tuesday appealed to the Union Home Minister and the Lieutenant Governor to consider releasing the youths who have been detained over the past two days, in respect of the sentiments of the mourners.

He said that such a step would not only help in healing hearts but would also contribute to maintaining peace and stability.

He stated that the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is an extremely tragic and heart-wrenching incident and a profound shock and irreparable loss for the entire Muslim Ummah.

“At this delicate and sensitive moment, it is our collective responsibility to demonstrate patience, restraint, and dignity in both word and action. Expressing grief and sorrow is the legitimate and natural right of every individual, and people openly came out onto the streets to register their protest before the world in a strong manner. However, some elements may create problems and take advantage of the situation, it has become necessary that we confine our protest and expression of grief and anger to peaceful means within our homes, mosques, and Imambaras, so that no unrest or unfortunate situation arises,” he said.

He made a heartfelt appeal particularly to the youth and students to please remain indoors. “Your entire life and a bright future lie ahead of you. In the present circumstances, stepping onto the streets does not result in temporary consequences; rather, the impact is borne by families for a long time,” he said adding that many arrests have been made, the majority of them involving minors, and their parents are currently in deep distress and anguish. “I urge the youth to think about their parents, their education, and their future, and to carefully consider the consequences before taking any step.”

The Chief Spokesperson further stated, “Although there may be differing opinions regarding the restrictions, if the law and order situation demands that people refrain from coming out onto the streets, we must respect the directions of the law and the administration. Adopting a responsible approach in the larger public interest and for the maintenance of peace is our collective duty.”

During this time, Tanvir Sadiq visited several areas of his constituency on Tuesday, including Zedi Bal, Lal Bazaar, Kathi Maidan, Hawal, and Alamgari Bazar and also interacted with the people there. He appealed to the public to remain patient and composed, stating that this is a time for unity, harmony, tolerance, and responsibility.

He said that the situation demands that we demonstrate through our conduct that even in this moment of grief, we can uphold peace, wisdom, and dignity.

He also appealed to the district administration to ensure that all essential and necessary services are provided to the people during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly the uninterrupted supply of electricity during Sehri and Iftar, as well as the provision of safe drinking water.
