Madurai: Faced with relentless attacks from DMK, calling it subservient to BJP and a front to implement BJP’s agenda, AIADMK has claimed that the alliance with BJP is not ideological but limited to elections. AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami has said if AIADMK wins polls then the government will run on the ideology of AIADMK and not that of BJP.

“We have clarified our alliance. NDA (in TN) is headed by AIADMK and it is our party that will form the government. I will be the chief minister (in case AIADMK comes to power). Where is Delhi coming here?” Palaniswami said at a public meeting at Nagapattinam on Sunday.

He said the alliance with BJP was formed to ensure that votes do not split and to help AIADMK come to power. Speaking of how parties form alliances just before polls, he said, “All those parties who are in an alliance with DMK were with AIADMK earlier, and those with AIADMK have now joined hands with DMK. Alliances change every election.”

Palaniswami’s comments come as DMK chief and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has said that minorities may face problems if NDA comes to power. In a recent speech, he said that uniform civil code would be brought in the state impacting minorities if NDA came to power. Stalin’s comments were aimed to ensure that the Catholic and Muslim communities vote en masse for DMK.
