Chennai: Functionaries of actor Kamal Haasan‘s MNM have told the leadership that the party should contest the upcoming Assembly elections on its ‘torchlight’ symbol.The views of the party functionaries were sought at a meeting of the executive committee and district secretaries in Chennai, convened by Kamal in the wake of DMK insisting MNM to contest on its ‘rising sun’ symbol.Around 220 functionaries attended the meeting where vice-president A G Mourya and general secretary A Arunachalam were present. Sources said that nearly 90% of the participants expressed the view that the party should contest on its own symbol. “Our decision is in line with our leader’s vision that the party’s representatives should enter the TN Assembly,” a senior functionary said.The meeting authorised Kamal to take a final call on the number of seats to be contested as part of DMK-led alliance. MNM sources said they have conveyed this position to DMK’s seat-sharing panel.
