CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay will visit the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) headquarters in Chennai on Tuesday, in what is being seen as a notable political outreach move in the state.According to party sources, the visit is expected to be a courtesy meeting with senior Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu. The development comes at a time when political engagements between ruling and opposition parties in the state have drawn attention, particularly amid recent shifts in the state’s political landscape.Sources indicated that Vijay’s visit is likely to focus on maintaining political decorum and strengthening administrative cooperation on key governance issues.Earlier in the day, the chief minister directed authorities to shut down 717 TASMAC liquor outlets located within 500 metres of places of worship, educational institutions and bus stands across Tamil Nadu within two weeks.Following the instructions, officials carried out a statewide inspection to identify outlets operating close to temples, schools, colleges and bus termini. The survey found that 276 liquor shops were situated near places of worship, 186 near educational institutions and 255 close to bus stands, taking the total number of outlets marked for closure to 717.Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring stricter regulation of liquor outlets and addressing public concerns over the proximity of TASMAC shops to sensitive public spaces.
