TVK ticket aspirants and NTK candidates have set their eyes north and kick-started campaigns across the constituencies.Jeppiaar Institute managing director Marie Wilson, who is TVK’s candidate for RK Nagar, started meeting people last week. He has been going door-to-door, seeking votes and distributing pamphlets. He promises supply of clean water, a smart-parking button system in the constituency, free sanitary napkins for women, while amplifying schemes announced by Vijay.TVK North Chennai district jointsecretary B Jagan said they have started campaigning in all North Chennai seats. “People will remember us for our early outreach. We have studied local issues over a year, and we are holding talks with people on how they can be solved,” he said.Similarly, NTK’s Tiruvottiyur candidate P Sathya, a business entrepreneur, also kicked off campaigns last week. Sathya visited Ennore, Tiruvottiyur and Manali areas, and discussed with people how pollution from Tangedco exhaust pipes are impacting neighbourhoods. “People have been exposed to polluted air. The plants too have been violating stack emission norms. We will press environmental concerns,” said Nikhil Kumar, NTK’s youth-wing coordinator, who accompanied the candidate.Some DMK aspirants have begun work too. RK Nagar incumbent MLA J J Ebenzer has printed pamphlets, books and has been meeting people. “I have been explaining to people about the flyovers in Tondiarpet and Korukkupet, besides work on sports grounds and mini-stadiums. I have a good track record, and I’m hopeful to get a seat. So I am visiting people,” he said.
