Coimbatore: A 54-year-old DMK man arrested on Friday for placing effigies of former AIADMK ministers garlanded with sandals in various parts of Pollachi to condemn derogatory remarks they made against the chief minister’s Ungal Kanavai Sollungal scheme.The Pollachi East police identified the arrested person as S Senthil Kumar, 54, of Ram Nagar Layout in their jurisdiction. He is an active DMK member. He was apprehended based on a petition that AIADMK functionaries submitted to Pollachi sub-collector Ramakrishna Sami for placing effigies of former ministers C V Shanmugam, Dindigul C Sreenivasan and M R Vijayabaskar, and MLA Amman Arjunan garlanded with sandals. Shanmugam had criticized chief minister M K Stalin’s Ungal Kanavai Sollungal scheme and made a derogatory comment about a popular actress. Other AIADMK leaders had also criticized the scheme and made objectionable remarks. “Senthil Kumar’s act seems to be in protest against these derogatory remarks. He has been booked under sections 192, 196(1)(b) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act. He has been remanded in judicial custody. Two more men are involved in the case. We have launched a manhunt for them,” a police officer said.
