CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India on Thursday ordered the transfer of Tamil Nadu’s director general of police (law and order) G Venkataraman and appointed Sandeep Rai Rathore as the director general of police (Elections) ahead of the assembly polls. Rathore, a 1992-batch IPS officer, will oversee election-related policing in the state.In a separate order, the commission effected changes in key police postings across Tamil Nadu. Tambaram city police commissioner A Amalraj has been replaced by Sanjay Kumar, a 1997-batch IPS officer. Abhishek Dixit, a 2006-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Madurai city police commissioner.R V Ramya Bharathi, a 2008-batch IPS officer, has been posted as inspector general of police, West Zone, based in Coimbatore.These officers will be in charge of their positions until the election model code of conduct (MCC) is in place in the state. The orders were issued by Election Commission secretary Lata Tripathi, directing the officers to assume charge and report at 11 am on Friday.
