Hyderabad: Launching a sharp attack on the Congress govt over its BC welfare commitments, former minister and BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Thursday questioned the sincerity and execution of its promises, particularly on reservations and budget allocations.Speaking during the assembly debate on BC welfare grants, he said the state govt failed to take leaders from all parties to Delhi to pursue legal backing for the BC bill. He also criticised the Congress leadership for lack of unity during protests in the national capital, asking whether “promises that cannot be implemented are made just to deceive people for votes.” He questioned why the party did not introduce a private bill in Parliament and said the time would come when people would demand accountability on reservations. He noted that while 42% BC reservation falls under the Centre’s purview, the BC sub-plan is within the state’s control, and asked whether the ₹20,000 crore allocation is realistically implementable. Referring to the Kamareddy declaration, Talasani said the Congress had promised 42% reservation for BCs despite knowing its limitations. He stressed that BCs, who form 56% of the population and have won the highest number of general seats, should not be misled. He further alleged lack of transparency in the caste census and said the Bhusani commission report remains undisclosed. He also flagged gaps between allocations and actual spending, claiming dues such as fee reimbursement and overseas assistance remain unpaid. “I am a brand for both states; I don’t need anyone’s recognition,” he said, while highlighting BRS initiatives in education and BC representation. He said the former BRS govt spent Rs 45,000 crore during nine years of its rule on BC welfare.
