Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has said he wants to “hijack” US President Donald Trump’s immigration adviser Tom Homan and bring him to Britain to help “secure our borders”.Speaking at an event in the US where Homan was a guest, Farage said: “I’ve got terrible news for you. We’re hijacking Tom Homan and taking him back with us to secure our borders.”
Farage praises Trump administration
According to The Guardian, Farage also urged Europe to take a “more sensible view” of the Trump administration rather than portraying it as “villainous” through traditional mainstream media.Homan is a key Trump adviser on US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has faced scrutiny over its immigration enforcement tactics, including fatal shootings involving its agents. Farage has previously praised Homan’s approach to deportations, describing him as uncompromising.Reform UK has backed a strict immigration policy, including mass deportations of people who entered the UK illegally and using the Royal Navy to intercept migrant boats crossing the English Channel.
Farage’s changing stance on Trump
Farage has earlier appeared to distance himself from Trump, saying in April that the two had not spoken for several months and questioning the US president’s judgment over the Iran war.However, during his latest US trip, Farage defended Trump’s administration and said European countries should have a more balanced view of the US president.Farage has also differed with Trump on Northern Ireland. After Trump said earlier this week that he would like to see a united Ireland, Farage said Northern Ireland was a “proud and integral part” of the United Kingdom and that people there did not want a referendum or unification.
