Mohali: Newly appointed Mohali SSP Varun Sharma Saturday directed police officers to intensify the crackdown on drug trafficking, making it clear that there would be no laxity in action against peddlers.Soon after assuming charge, Sharma chaired a crime review meeting with circle officers and station house officers, instructing them to maintain constant surveillance on drug traffickers and pursue intelligence-led operations against the illegal trade.He also called for greater public participation in the anti-drug campaign, asking officers to promote the ‘Safe Punjab’ helpline and encourage residents to share information about drug trafficking without fear.The SSP directed police teams to act promptly on credible inputs and ensure stringent legal action against those involved in the drug network.Sharma also reviewed policing arrangements and asked PCR teams to remain vigilant, particularly in sensitive areas and public places. He directed officials to strengthen round-the-clock patrolling and increase police visibility to improve public safety.Emphasising citizen-centric policing, the SSP instructed officers to prioritise public grievances and ensure their prompt resolution. Maintaining law and order and providing a safe environment for residents should remain the force’s foremost objective, he said.
