Hyderabad: Swiss contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) player Lonza Group AG has zeroed in on Hyderabad for its new global capability centre (GCC), reinforcing Telangana‘s push to position the city as a global life sciences hub.A delegation from the company met IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu, and Telangana Lifesciences CEO Shakthi M Nagappan to formally communicate the company’s decision and give them an outline of their proposed plans for the centre.Lonza operates over 30 sites worldwide and employs nearly 20,000 professionals and reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion in 2025.According to Lonza officials, they took their decision after an extensive evaluation in which Hyderabad emerged as a preferred destination due to its deep talent pool, quality infrastructure and supportive industrial ecosystem. Senior Lonza representatives have been in discussions with Telangana Lifesciences, the Industries and commerce department and other stakeholders over recent months.Sridhar Babu said the investment strengthens state’s standing for innovation-led growth and could create a substantial number of jobs over the years. Nagappan said the state would work closely with Lonza to support execution and long-term value creation. The GCC is expected to generate high-value employment and deepen city’s role in global biopharmaceutical value chain. Neither the state govt nor Lonza revealed details about the number of people they plan to hire and the kind of work that will be taken up by the GCC.
