Kolkata: A Sealdah court on Saturday sentenced swimming instructor Sandeep Sahu to life imprisonment for attempting to murder a minor and committing robbery in 2015 in Chitpur. The sentence was pronounced a day after the court convicted him on multiple charges.Additional district and sessions judge Anirban Das held Sahu guilty of attempting to murder the girl and robbing her home when she was alone. According to the prosecution, on March 18, 2015, the minor was alone at home. Sahu, known to the family through a local swimming centre, allegedly went there on the pretext that the girl’s father was ill and that money was needed for treatment. Sahu allegedly took keys from the minor, opened a cupboard, and began removing gold jewellery. When she raised an alarm, he allegedly tried to strangle her, threw her on a bed, took a knife and slit her throat. The girl survived and crawled to a neighbour’s flat.
