Kharagpur: A family has filed a complaint at Kotwali police station alleging medical negligence in the death of a 32-year-old woman at Midnapore Medical College Hospital on Friday.Monika Karan Gorai (32), from Purunabera under Keshpur police station, was admitted to the maternity ward around 4.30am Friday for her second child’s birth. Her husband, Anup, said doctors suggested a caesarean but waited for normal delivery. She gave birth to a baby girl between 10am and 10.30am but was left unstitched, the family alleged. Despite repeated complaints to doctors and nurses, stitching was done only around 2pm, by which time she had lost significant blood and faced breathing difficulties. The family requested a transfer to a private hospital but was told moving her would be harmful. She died around 8pm.The deceased’s sister-in-law, Chinu Roy, said the baby was kept in ICU due to poor health. “Despite the baby weighing 4kg, doctors delayed stitching. Negligence led to her death,” she said.Hospital superintendent Indranil Sen called the death unfortunate and said an autopsy would determine the cause. “Investigations will be conducted institutionally and at the district level. Negligence has been alleged,” he said.
