Varanasi: For the second consecutive day after the lodging of a case under the Pocso Act with the Jhunsi police station in Prayagraj against Swami Avimukteshwaranand, his Shri Vidya Mutt at Kedar Ghat here remained abuzz on Tuesday with leaders of opposition parties visiting to show solidarity.Though no police team reached the Mutt from Prayagraj for investigation or any other action, the seer moved his plea before the HC to seek anticipatory bail and kept rocketing salvos on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his govt, alleging that under his patronage a nexus of crime and police was implicating him on false charges. The seer released a photograph showing Prayagraj joint commissioner of police Ajay Pal Sharma and the complainant against him Ajay Brahmachari cutting a cake together. “This photo clears a long-standing relationship between the two, raising doubts about the fairness of the ongoing investigation under Sharma,” said the seer, questioning the timing of the lodging of the case against him.“There was no issue before I left Magh Mela in Prayagraj after being stopped from bathing in Sangam. The series of events escalated when Sharma became active,” said the seer, questioning why police did not register a case under the Pocso Act immediately if the matter involved minors to ensure that medical examinations were conducted timely.Reaching to extend support to the seer, UP Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai announced that Congress workers in all 75 districts of UP would stage a protest and submit a memorandum to officials, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to stop the harassment of the seer and his disciples. Terming the lodging of an FIR against the seer as a bid to defame Avimukteshwaranand under a planned conspiracy, Rai said that it was an insult to the entire Sanatan Dharma and Congressmen will not tolerate his insult at any cost. Against the dictatorial attitude of govt, Congress will go among people to give a fitting reply to Yogi. Congress will fight this battle from the streets to the Assembly and Parliament to protect the honour of seers. The series of arrivals of politicians already started at this Mutt since Monday, when Samajwadi Party MP from Chandauli Virendra Singh along with scores of party leaders reached there to show solidarity with Avimukteshwaranand. Again on Tuesday, a large number of SP leaders kept reaching there, while many advocates and their office-bearers also kept congregating there.
