Jaisalmer: An Innova car was allegedly vandalised by supporters of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal during his visit to Barmer Thursday evening after the vehicle reportedly came in front of his convoy near Danta village, police said. The incident occurred when Beniwal travelled from the Circuit House in Barmer to Derasar village in the Ramsar area after addressing a news conference. According to police and eyewitnesses, the Innova approached the convoy from the opposite direction and entered the middle of the cavalcade near Danta village, triggering an angry reaction from some supporters accompanying the MP.The supporters allegedly stopped the vehicle, abused its occupants and damaged the Innova using iron rods, sticks and by kicking the vehicle. The car’s windows were shattered and the vehicle was extensively damaged before the convoy moved on.Videos purportedly showing the vandalism soon surfaced on social media and went viral, drawing widespread criticism from users who questioned the conduct of those accompanying the RLP leader.Later, while addressing a public gathering in Derasar village, Hanuman Beniwal made an apparent reference to the incident without directly commenting on the vandalism. He said, “Some people have a stomachache over why Hanuman is visiting here. Whoever has a stomachache should take medicine and get treated.”The owner of the damaged vehicle, Shravan Singh, a resident of Kotra village under Shiv police station limits in Barmer district, claimed that he was driving on the correct side of the road near the centre divider when the incident took place. He alleged that despite not obstructing the convoy, his vehicle was targeted and extensively damaged by the supporters. After receiving information about the incident, Station House Officer Vikram Charan of Barmer Gramin Police Station reached the spot along with a police team. Officers inspected the damaged vehicle, recorded preliminary information from the complainant and assessed the situation.Police said no formal complaint was lodged at the time of reporting. Officials added that further action would be initiated after receiving a written complaint and examining the available evidence, including videos of the incident circulating on social media. The incident sparked political discussion in the district, with the viral footage adding to public scrutiny over the conduct of political supporters during high-profile visits.
