Kanpur: A suspected thief accused of stealing scrap iron was allegedly thrashed by a crowd in Vijay Nagar under Fazalganj police station limits early Tuesday.According to police, the suspect, identified as Deepu Savita (35), was allegedly caught red-handed while loading scrap iron onto a vehicle.Locals reportedly tied him with a rope and assaulted him before handing him over to the police. They also alleged that he had been caught stealing on several occasions in the past.Police later took the suspect into custody and launched an investigation into the incident.Fazalganj inspector Dhananjay Pandey said action would also be taken against those who took the law into their own hands.“No one is allowed to do that. The police will act on any complaint received,” he said.
