Ludhiana: An emergency containment operation has started at Lubangarh village after a suspected rabid dog launched a series of attacks, biting at least six people including a 3-year-old girl. The surge in canine violence over the past three days has left the Machhiwara area in a state of high alert, prompting a multi-agency response from animal husbandry officials, health departments, and local civil administration. A specialised task force led by naib tehsildar Rajesh Ahuja and veterinary teams from Ludhiana arrived at the village on Wednesday to address the crisis.Following consultations with frightened residents, officials deployed several large traps across the township and nearby agricultural fields. “Six dogs have been captured and moved to secure facilities,” said veterinary officer Narendra Pal Singh. “These animals will be kept in strict isolation for 10 days to monitor for symptoms of rabies.” While six animals are in custody, the primary target — a dog believed to be suffering from rabies — remains at large. Local sources suggest this animal is responsible for biting both humans and other local strays, potentially spreading the virus through the canine population.Health and Safety MeasuresMedical teams are currently on the ground providing anti-rabies treatment to the injured. Villagers, including residents Manraj Singh and Harnek Singh, have urged neighbours in surrounding districts to remain vigilant. “The problem will only be resolved once the specific rabid animal is caught,” they said, noting that other dogs bitten by the suspected carrier could soon become aggressive.Authorities reminded the public that rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease, typically transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. The recent violence in Lubangarh follows a string of similar incidents across the region over the past year, which has also claimed the lives of several children.BoxA Pattern of AttacksJan 18 | A 5-year-old child was attacked at his doorstep in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, KhannaOct 6, 2025 | A stray dog mauled a 9-year-old child in the Krishna Nagar areaOct 1-2, 2025 | Khanna Govt Hospital recorded 29 dog-bite cases in 48 hours during a localised rampage Sept 1, 2025 | Khanna’s Ward 18’s 14 residents were treated for bites in a single day
