Udupi: Malpe police arrested an accused in connection with the robbery of a fish trader at Malpe Harbour, where thee persons allegedly attacked the victim, threw chilli powder on his face, and robbed his gold chain worth about Rs 6 lakh.According to the complaint filed by Dayananda Kunder, he went to work as usual at around 3 am on Friday. At 4.30 am, he went to use the toilet at an office near Sahukar Bar in the harbour area.

While returning towards the harbour around 4.40 am, an accused approached him and began enquiring about fish. The accused then threw chilli powder on his face with the intention of robbing him, and dragged him for some distance. Soon, two more accused joined him, and the trio threatened the victim with a knife and demanded the gold chain around his neck.When he refused, the accused assaulted him on the face and back, dragged him, and forcibly robbed his gold chain weighing about 6 sovereigns (37.6g approx), valued around Rs 6 lakh. The accused also threatened to kill him if he reported the matter to police.Based on the complaint, Malpe police registered a case under Sections 309(6), 351(2) read with 3(5) of the BNS.SP Hariram Shankar said that under the guidance of Udupi Subdivision DSP Belliappa KU and Malpe circle inspector Ramachandra Nayak, a team led by PSI Eeranna Shiragumpi and PSI Hussain Saab Chapparkar, along with staff members, arrested the accused the same evening. The accused is Muttanna,20, from Kanakagiri taluk in Koppal district, and currently residing in a rented room near Kodavoor. The stolen gold chain was recovered from his possession. The accused was produced before a court, and further investigation is on, the SP added.
