Mangaluru: In an alleged case of moral policing, Moodubidire police have registered a suo motu case after a group of boys and girls from different faiths were allegedly threatened by rowdy elements at a hotel.According to police, the group including two boys, was sitting at the hotel when the accused approached them and allegedly threatened them, following which the youths left the premises.After learning about the incident, police visited the hotel and asked the girl involved to file a complaint. However, she and her father declined to do so. The hotel owner also refused to lodge a complaint, city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said.Police subsequently collected the hotel’s CCTV footage and registered a suo motu case based on the visuals. As no audio was available, the case was booked under relevant sections based on the obstruction and arguments seen in the footage.The commissioner said that the girl’s father and the hotel owner should have shown greater responsibility and come forward to report the incident.The accused are already bound over under preventive proceedings, and further legal action will follow, he said.
