Srinagar, Sep 08: Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan on Tuesday described Kashmir as “Jannat” and praised the valley’s hospitality, food and scenic beauty, saying she hoped to bring her concert to the region.
Speaking to reporters at INOX Srinagar on the sidelines of the first International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026 here, Chauhan said it was her first visit to Kashmir and that the experience had left her overwhelmed.
“I had been to many places, but never got to be in Kashmir. Today, it feels like I am in Jannat. My eyes were opened after seeing Kashmir,” she said.
Praising the hospitality and cuisine, she said, “The hospitality is amazing, and the food is great. I am speechless, and I don’t want to go back to Mumbai. I hope I get a chance to bring my concert to Kashmir.”
Chauhan said she had earlier been in love with Kashmir through films and television but that visiting the valley in person had given her a completely different perspective.
Talking about the film festival, the singer said such platforms were important for giving recognition to lesser-known films and filmmakers who put in immense effort despite uncertainty about the future of their projects.
“Such festivals are important because they give recognition to lesser-known films or films made with a lot of hard work, whose future may not be known. Such films get a platform here,” she said.
Sunidhi appreciated the response of local audiences, saying it was encouraging to see movie lovers attending screenings. “These are platforms where people get to learn a lot. If they have any confusion, they can get it cleared at such festivals. There is so much to explore. People are coming and watching, and I hope they have a great time. Good films should be promoted,” she said.
On Kashmir’s potential as a filming destination, Chauhan said the valley’s landscapes could enhance almost any cinematic production.
“Wherever you shoot, Kashmir looks stunning. People are eager to visit Kashmir and shoot here. Those who do not know Kashmir fully should attend such festivals,” she said.
The singer praised the region’s artistic potential, saying Kashmir had immense talent that deserved greater recognition.
