Times News NetworkKanpur: Contrary to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department(IMD), Sunday turned out to be a dry day for residents of Kanpur as thecity witnessed neither rainfall nor significant cloud cover. Brightsunshine prevailed throughout the day, although the maximum temperatureremained unchanged at 33.5 degrees Celsius.The minimum temperature, however, registered an increase and was recordedat 27.2 degrees Celsius, around 3 degrees higher than Saturday’s minimumtemperature.The maximum relative humidity declined to 76 per cent. South-westerly windsswept across the city at speeds ranging between 9.8 kmph and 17.4 kmph,providing some relief from the prevailing sultry conditions.According to the IMD, weather conditions in the Kanpur division areexpected to change on Monday with skies ranging from partlycloudy to heavily overcast and light to moderate rainfall likely in severalareas accompanied by thunderstorms. Meteorologists attributed the expectedchange to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and an active monsoonsystem.An alert has been issued for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied bythunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in Kanpur Nagarand Unnao districts.Weather expert Dr SN Sunil Pandey said that due to the presence ofatmospheric moisture and an increase in moisture flow, the Kanpur divisionis likely to witness cloudy skies and strong winds between July 12 and July14. He added that light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds,thunderstorms and lightning is likely at many places, while isolated areasmay receive light drizzles.However, he cautioned that heat and humidity levels may risesharply when sunshine reappears after the rain spell.
