Bathinda: SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday distributed around 1,000 quintals of wheat to 300 farmers and workers who suffered damage to crops and lost livelihood during the April hailstorm in Bhalaiana and Kotli villages of Gidderbaha constituency.The SAD president distributed four quintals of wheat to each farmer as well as farm worker family. As many as 2,000 acres of wheat crop had been destroyed in the two villages due to the hailstorm.Sukhbir said the SAD aimed to assist farmers as the AAP govt had failed to deliver on its responsibilities. “The state govt not only left the farmers in the lurch when they suffered massive losses due to untimely hailstorms in April, but also did not provide any compensation for destruction of paddy crop due to floods in 2025,” said Sukhbir.He said earlier, this wheat distribution exercise was conducted in Lambi, Malout, and Fatehgarh Sahib.The SAD president also interacted with the farmers, who said their paddy crop was under threat due to prolonged and long power cuts. Badal said the SAD was seized of the matter and would hold protests across the state on Sept 16 to wake up the govt from its slumber and force it to restore adequate power supply to farmers.Sukhbir also assured to spend huge funds in Gidderbaha upon gaining power in 2027. Previously, Sukhbir had hinted of contesting next elections from Gidderbaha.
